Miami!

We made it out of Fort Lauderdale yesterday and had a leisurely sail/motor down the coast, averaging about 8.5 knots. Right now we’re docked at the Dinner Key Marina. Chris and I rode our bikes over to the Miami port and have officially checked out of here. Estimated departure date for Bimini is Thursday morning, [...]

The SSB Saga

I believe we have part of an SSB radio. Our installation, needless to say, did not go well. The guy who installed it didn’t have a clue as to what he was doing. At least our equipment wasn’t fried, unlike Frik, a South African friend, moored a few spots away, who didn’t have the same [...]

Hauled Out

It turned out that the weather was just fine for hauling out. We’ve been ‘on the hard’ for the last couple of days to replace all of our thru-hulls and seacocks with brass. In fact, the entire boat was ripped apart, and will remain that way until our SSB radio is installed. The wire has [...]

Haul-out, More Prep

Things are finally coming together. We’re to be hauled out today at 1:00 pm (edit: I just found out that we are now hauling out on Monday! …geesh), where our brass thru-hull fittings and SSB radio will finally be installed. Since we’re hauling out, we decided to paint the bottom as well — hauling out [...]

Brrrr!!!

Okay, I know this won’t garner much sympathy up in Canada (-15C today), but it’s cold down here! Yep it was 38F (3C) this morning and windy which is a record 30 year low temperature. In fact there was a “Wind Chill Advisory” in effect overnight. The poor Floridians are walking around confused and cold. [...]

One Final Thing

Happy New Year everybody! Last night we had a relaxing dinner on the river while we watched boatload after boatload of revellers, all with a beer in one hand, including the captain, motor by. I worried that someone would smash into our boat, but then again, most things worry me, if truth be told. Ok, [...]
